HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 c77W
Mr. John Browne

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether there is any extra cost, in terms of electrical energy used for lighting, incurred by moving from summer to winter time; and if he will estimate that cost.

Mr. Mellor

Present estimates of the effect of moving from British summer time to Greenwich mean time, based on past experience of extending British summer time throughout the year, indicate that any additional lighting costs are likely to be negligible.
