HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 c70W
53. Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what techniques he employs to assess the degree of mobility of labour.

Mr. Alison

There are a number of different facets of labour mobility, including movement between regions, changes in job or labour turnover, and movement between occupations. Various Government surveys provide information on all these aspects of labour mobility; for example, my Department collects information on labour turnover based on quarterly employment returns from a sample of manufacturing employers; and information on geographical and occupational mobility is available from the census of population, and sample household surveys such as the general household survey and the labour force survey.
