asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the present rate of unemployment within the Dinnington employment exchange area; and if he will list those employment exchange areas in Yorkshire and Humberside which have a higher rate of unemployment.

At 8 October, the unemployment rate in the Sheffield travel-to-work area, of which the Dinnington employment office area is a part, was 13 per cent. The percentage rate was higher in the following areas in the Yorkshire and Humberside region:

  • Barnsley*
  • Bradford*
  • Bridlington
    • 73
  • Dewsbury*
  • Doncaster*
  • Goole
  • Hull*
  • Maltby
  • Mexborough*
  • Rotherham
  • Scunthorpe*
  • Whitby

* Travel-to-work area comprising two or more employment office areas.
