HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 c71W
27. Mr. McNally

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what fresh proposals he has for arresting the decline in apprenticeships to industry.

Mr. Peter Morrison

As I told my hon. Friend the Member for Fareham (Mr. Lloyd) on 21 July—[Vol. 9, c. 73–74]—the Government are providing a further £9.6 million in 1981–82 and £11 million in 1982–83. This will bring the total to support industry's long term training needs in the current training year to some £50 million. My right hon. Friend expects to make a further statement about skill training in the context of the Government's response to the consultations on "A New Training Initiative" by the turn of the year.
