§ 29. Mr. Hardyasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to ensure that British industry, in particular the steel industry, is not harmed by the unfair importation of goods which purport to be of equivalent quality and which may not receive adequate testing and assessment on entry into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Peter ReesThere are in general no legal requirements for steels to be tested and assessed on entry to the United Kingdom. However, any goods bearing a false trade description within the meaning of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 may be the subject of a prosecution. Enforcement of the Act is the responsibility of the local weights and measures authorities, though other persons may institute proceedings.
