§ Mr. Soleyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will include in any proposed criminal justice legislation the repeal of the offence of begging under the Vagrancy Act 1824.
§ Mr. MayhewNo. The Select Committee on Home Affairs recommended in its third report that the begging offence in section 3 of the 1824 Act should be retained, at least for the time being. The Government, in their reply to the report, said that they accepted this recpommendation.
