HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 c182W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food which of the policy initiatives he proposes to take in the current Session he considers will be of greatest benefit to farmers in West Cumbria.

Mr. Peter Walker

The biggest ever increase in hill farm subsidies, the introduction of the sheepmeat regime and of the suckler cow premium are but a few of the major political initiatives which have given benefit to farmers in West Cumbria.

In the coming Session shall be reviewing the rate of hill livestock compensatory allowances and considering what further measures can be taken to improve the competitiveness of British agriculture.
