§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) what schemes are run to help home-based firms which might otherwise invest abroad; how much has been allocated for this since the schemes began; and how much has been taken up each year;
(2) what publicity he gives to his schemes for helping home-based firms which might otherwise invest abroad; if he is satisfied with the response; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacGregorThere are no such specific schemes. However, assistance under sections 7 and 8 of the Industry Act may be given to projects which would otherwise not be located in this country. The availability of, and the criteria for, such assistance are well-known, but the prime responsibility for investment decisions rests with the companies themselves.
