HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 cc179-80W
46. Mr. Spearing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, as part of his objective of adjusting the common agricultural policy of the European Economic Community, he will initiate a study of national aids provided by member States.

Mr. Peter Walker

My officials are constantly on the alert for national aids in other member States that infringe the Community's state aid provisions to the detriment of British interests. I am prepared to refer such aids to the Commission—which is responsible for implementing the relevant provisions of the Treaty—provided there is sufficient evidence to justify a complaint. A more detailed study would not be cost effective and would duplicate work for which the Commission is responsible.
