§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made on the sale of surplus Woolwich Arsenal land adjacent to Beresford Square, SE18, following the result of the site investigation.
§ Sir George YoungIt has not been possible to reach agreement to offer for sale as one site the adjacent surplus land owned by the Crown, the Central Electricity Generating Board and the London borough of Greenwich. The disposal of the land owned by the Crown is being reviewed urgently in the light of this; the discovery of contaminants in the soil; and the possibility that a new Ministry of Defence headquarters building might be constructed on part of this site, permitting other land at the Arsenal to be declared surplus instead.
