§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will detail the industrial training undertaken by his Department; what is its cost; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacGregorThe Departments of Industry and Trade have a common training service. In the year ended July 1980, management, job-related and specialist training was received by 10,000 of the 16,000 staff of the two Departments. The direct cost was £460,000.
Industrial training is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment. But in 1979–80 the Department contributed £1.28 million in training grants for the development of training courses in microelectronics. From time to time the Department of Industry provides limited assistance for other courses of particular value to industry. This has amounted to £91,000 over the past six years.
