Minimum list heading 381 includes, but does not distinguish between, the manufacture of motor vehicles and components. At December 1980, the latest date for which comprehensive employment estimates are available, the provisional number of employees in employment in this category in the United Kingdom was 387,600. This represents 1.8 per cent. of employees in employment in all industries and services. The number engaged in importing components is not separately available.
