§ 26. Mr. Richard Pageasked the Secretary of State for Industry what progress has been made by Nissan in establishing a vehicle manufacturing plant within the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Michael MarshallThe company is currently conducting a feasibility study into the proposed car plant. The study covers a number of aspects of the project including the United Kingdom car market, the supply of automotive components and possible sites for the factory, and it has involved Nissan in exploratory discussions with companies, unions and local authorities. Nissan will not be making a final decision on whether to go ahead with the project, and if so where, until the feasibility study is completed. This could be well into the summer.
