§ Sir Ian GilmourThe £0.5 million allocated by Her Majesty's Government for longer-term earthquake relief has been used to provide prefabricated units for social purposes in the villages of Serino and Solofra. They included an agricultural college, an old people's home, social centres, a school, and a community centre. The units were erected under the supervision of a small Royal Engineer management team. They were handed over to the Italian authorities on 9 May by Her Majesty's ambassador at Rome.
