§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much his Department spent on research and development in the year 1980–81; and how much it intends to spend in 1981–82.
§ Sir George YoungExpenditure on research and development in 1980–81 is expected to have been £39.8 million and for 1981–82 provision has been make for expenditure of £32.3 million. The 1980–81 figure included £13.8 million in respect of commissioned researh by the Medical Research Council which will be borne by the Department of Education and Science in 1981–82.
