HC Deb 08 May 1981 vol 4 cc151-2W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what was the average percentage increase in agricultural electricity charges in Wales during the last financial year;

(2) what was the average percentage increase in agricultural electricity charges in England during the last financial year.

Mr. Norman Lamont

Electricity boards in England and Wales notify me of fatal accidents on the premises of ordinary consumers occasioned by or attributed to the consumer's installation which come to their notice. The following table gives the total number of such fatalities and the number of deaths caused through defective fixed electrical wiring in buildings notified to me during each of the last five years.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I am advised by the Electricity Council that the average percentage increases in charges for electricity to agricultural consumers during the last financial year ending 5 April 1981 are estimated to be:

England 21 per cent., Wales 22 per cent.
