§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what expenditure has been incurred by his Department in the last 12 months on the anti-litter campaign in (a) the national press, (b) the provincial press, (c) television, (d) radio and (e) elsewhere.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe Department made a grant of £250,000 in 1980–81 to the keep Britain tidy group which is the recognised national agency for litter abatement. The group campaigns on many fronts, and advertising plays an important role. The Group recently introduced the keep Britain tidy system which encourages a comprehensive approach involving all sectors of the commuity, including local authorities, industry, commerce and the news media. In addition, the Department has made a special additional grant of £30,000 for anti-litter publicity in the London area using posters.
