§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider granting mobility allowance to persons suffering from severe epilepsy; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RossiMobility allowance is designed for people who are unable or virtually unable to walk throughout a period of at least 12 months. People suffering from severe epilepsy who satisfy these conditions can qualify for the12W allowance. The conditions were laid down by the last Administration in the Social Security Act 1975, section 37A(1), when it was decided not to make the mobility allowance available automatically to people suffering from a particular disability. We have no proposals to depart from this principle.
