Friend said on 24 February that Mr. MacGregor had agreed to consider placing those BSC businesses which are in competition with the private sector into separate Companies Act companies. BSC has already put arrangements in hand o transfer two substantial businesses into Companies Act companies: these are the corporation's steel stockholding business and Stanton and Staveley, which is a large manufacturer of pipes.
