§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will ensure that the jobcentre staff do not seek to raise questions with applicants regarding wages in such a manner as to suggest that wages should be accepted which are below trade union negotiated rates.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission, which is responsible for the public employment service, that jobcentre staff discuss wage and salary expectations with job seekers with the aim of agreeing a realistic level of remuneration which can be used as a guide to identifying suitable vacancies. Jobcentre staff do not seek to raise questions with job seekers in such a manner as to suggest that wages should be accepted which are below trade union negotiated rates.
