asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report the grades and salaries for each grade of police constables in the London Metropolitan area, including the value of allowances.

In addition, all members of the Metropolitan Police are paid London weighting of £588 a year and a special London allowance of £894 a year. Officers who are not provided with free accommodation are paid a rent allowance within the maximum limits approved for the force. These range from £1,457 a year for officers below the rank of superintendent to £2,273 a year for assistant commissioners and the deputy commissioner.

Officers below the rank of superintendent receive additional payments at enhanced rates for any overtime worked, and officers on certain specialist duties receive additional allowances, such as plain clothes allowance and detective duty or detective expenses allowance.
