§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has as to the extent to which the temporary agreement with the tobacco industry on the restriction of advertising is (a) reducing tobacco consumption by regular smokers, (b) achieving fair statements of health risks, and (c) discouraging new smokers, particularly young people.
§ Sir George YoungThe agreement provides for new health warnings to reaffirm the message that smoking is dangerous to health. It is not possible to isolate the impact of the agreement from other factors which influence smoking behaviour including other aspects of the campaign to reduce smoking.
