§ Mr. Langasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost to the Exchequer of abolishing the national insurance surcharge (a) for employees aged under 18 years and (b) for employees aged under 21 years.
§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 10 March 1981, c. 303–304]: On the basis of the economic assumptions published in Cmnd. 8091, the full year cost of abolishing the employer's national insurance surcharge for all employees in the United Kingdom under the age (a)18 years and (b) 21 years, would be in the order of £60 million and £250 million respectively.
