§ Sir Ian GilmourThe main organisations, apart from the European Community, in which the United Kingdom co-operates multilaterally with other Western European countries, both members and non-members of the Community, are NATO, the Council of Europe and the Western European Union There is also co-operation in multilateral organisations whose scope goes wider than Western Europe, such as the United Nations, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the International Monetary Fund, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The United Kingdom co-operates bilaterally with other Western European countries in a wide variety of fields outside the framework of the European Communities.
