HC Deb 12 March 1981 vol 1000 c411W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what manuscript records more than 100 years old are held by the Registrar-General.

Sir George Young

The Registrar-General holds manuscript records of births, deaths and marriages registered in England and Wales since 1 July 1837 and records of certain similar events occuring abroad, mainly among British families and members of Her Majesty's Forces.

I am sending the hon. Member a list giving details of the several series of records kept by the Registrar-General and the periods covered.
