§ Mr. MayhewThe provisional total amount of sums reported by magistrates' courts in England and Wales—excluding inner London—as payable to the Secretary of State and outstanding at 30 September 1980 is £31,529,000. This figure includes fines imposed but not yet due for payment. Information on the time that unpaid fines have been outstanding and the number of cases in which detention or imprisonment in default of payment has been imposed is not available.
