asked the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects to place an order for a further Type 42 destroyer.

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence said in the House on 20 January 1981substantial further orders for ships and other naval equipment will be placed"—[Official Report, 20 January 1981; Vol. 997, c. 149.] However, final decisions on the numbers and types of vessel, and the timing of orders, have yet to be taken.
