§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many police reports on convictions and on character were made on (a) teachers, including former teachers and student teachers, and (b) proprietors of independent schools in the last year for which figures are available; and how many of the individuals concerned were informed about the reports on them.
§ Dr. Boyson292 police reports of convictions of teachers and one of a conviction of a proprietor of an independent school were received by the Department in the year ended 28 February 1981. The figure for teachers includes convictions of former teachers, teachers in training, teachers in independent schools and youth service and community workers. Specific reports on the character of teachers are not received, although a report of a conviction may refer to an individual's character. All individuals concerned are notified by the Department that it is aware of their convictions.
