§ Mr. MayhewThe pre-release employment scheme is inevitably suffering from the general shortage of available jobs, acute in some areas, and offenders who have served long sentences are at a disadvantage. Of the 195 places available in the 13 hostels, 122 are occupied, and 104 of the residents are in work. The scheme is under review.
