asked the Secretary of State for Environment how many buildings of historic or architectural interest have been listed in England and Wales: and if he will give the totals within each county.

The total number of buildings of special historic or architectural interest listed in England up to the end of February 1981 is 274,022. Figures by individual counties are attached.

The corresponding figures for Wales are a matter for my right hon. Friend.
