§ Mr. Giles ShawSince January 1978 the EEC has contributed £680,000 towards the cost of geological research programmes in the United Kingdom which are designed to establish whether disposal of high-level radioactive waste underground would be safe and practicable. Of this sum, it is estimated that £95,500 has been spent on exploratory drilling and related work in Scotland.
