§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if any guidance is given to Departments on the purchase of cars, with particular reference to the national origin of the cars.
§ Mr. BrittanCars for Government service are bought in accordance with the normal rule for Government purchasing, which is that Departments should seek the best value for money. In doing this Departments have regard to the effects of their purchasing on industrial competitiveness as well as to the international agreements relating to Government purchasing to which the United Kingdom is a party.
