§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many prisoners in the Province are serving sentences for (a) crimes connected with terrorism and (b) ordinary indictable offences.
§ Mr. AlisonStatistics of the prison population are not compiled on a basis which would readily identify those prisoners serving sentences for offences connected with terrorism. However, of 2,148 sentenced prisoners in custody on 24 May, it is believed that about 1,600—including 330 special category—prisoners, or about 75 per cent., were serving sentences in respect of terrorist-type offences.
