§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the Government's plans to check that statements of income in connection with the assisted places scheme can be verified by the Inland Revenue.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherAn application for an assisted place must be accompanied by documentary evidence of parental income. Where income is derived from salary or wages a copy of form P60 or similar document supplied by employers must be submitted. In other circumstances a tax assessment under schedule E or schedule D is required. If no tax assesment is made, a letter from Her Majesty's inspectors of taxes or from qualified accountants may be accepted.
