HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 cc295-6W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will institute research within the National Health Service to establish whether the increased number of school leavers without jobs is leading to any increase in the emotional difficulties in that age group.

Sir George Young

[pursuant to his reply, 26 June 1981]: The Department is already sponsoring research covering various aspects of the relationship between unemployment and health, and is currently considering what further work, in respect of particular groups or more generally, is required. The Manpower Services Commission is currently sponsoring a study on school leavers which includes measurements of psychological disturbance.
