HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 c314W
Mr. Michael Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now hold talks with police and local authorities in Wiltshire together with representatives of the National Trust to assess the cost to public funds, the damage to private property, the demands on the police, the lack of sanitation and the disregard of the law among midsummer crowds at Stonehenge, and to consider steps, including the practicality of a system of road diversions and road blocks, to prevent recurrence of this annual disorder.

Mr. Monro

I am concerned at the reports I have received about events at the midsummer festival. Investigations are taking place and I will keep my hon. Friend informed.
