HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 c301W
24. Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take action to equalise trading relations between Spain and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Eyre

Trading relations between Spain and the United Kingdom are governed by the 1970 trade agreement between Spain and the European Community, and negotiations to adapt this agreement broke down in 1978. Now, however, relations are due to be set on an equal footing by Spain's prospective accession to the Community. In the meantime, both the Government and the European Commission have repeatedly made their dissatisfaction plain to the Spanish authorities and will continue to do so until there is an improvement.
