§ Mr. LawsonFigures for United Kingdom private investment overseas in 1980 were published in table I of the press notice "United Kingdom Balance of Payments in the first quarter of 1981", issued by the Central Statistical Office on 9 June 1981. The figures for direct investment include, indistinguishably, direct investment by public corporations. The figure for official long term capital transactions, which is shown in table G of the same press notice, consists mainly of inter-government loans and subscriptions to international lending bodies.
