HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 cc261-2W
48. Mr. Ioan Evans

asked the Lord Privy Seal, pursuant to his reply on 1 June, Official Report, c. 641, if he is able to announce any further involvement by Her Majesty's Government in international action on matters covered by the Brandt report in making preparations for the Mexico summit meeting in October.

Mr. Neil Marten

As regards action, I have nothing to add to the reply I gave the hon. Member on 1 June. As regards the Mexico summit, my right hon. and noble Friend will attend a preparatory meeting of Foreign Ministers in early August.

53. Mr. Deakins

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will consult the six other Commonwealth countries attending the Mexico summit meeting before the preliminary meeting in Mexico in August.

Mr. Neil Marten

The preparatory meeting itself will give my right hon. and noble Friend the opportunity to consult the represenatives of other Commonwealth participants. Another opportunity will arise at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Melbourne.

55. Mr. McNamara

asked the Lord Privy Seal what initiatives resulting from the Brandt committee report Her Majesty's Government will propose at the Mexico summit.

Mr. Neil Marten

It is too early to say. The agenda for the Mexico summit will not be agreed until the preparatory meeting of Foreign Ministers on 1–2 August. We are examining possible ideas for constructive action.
