§ Mr. Porterasked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total amount of European Economic Community assistance given in respect of transport for the Merseyside area in each of the years 1976–77 to 1980–81.
§ Mr. FowlerAssistance for transport projects from the European regional development fund is included in the figures of total support from that source given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. In addition, the Community participates in financing certain special programmes of public sector investment, including rail investment in Merseyside, under the "supplementary measures" scheme. A refund of £12 million was agreed on 10 December 1980 in respect of rail investment in the North-West in 1980–81.
