§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the continued widespread non-application of the law against illegal parking of vehicles in London and particularly parts of East London, and the consequential hazard to the blind, the sick and the disabled who are prevented from obtaining access to the footway and the obstacles to access by ambulances and fire vehicles, he will reconsider his answer to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West on 14 April. Official Report, c. 83; and if he will seek to convene a conference involving 242W the police and other parties affected to review the working of the law on parking and to seek the means for its more effective enforcement.
§ Mr. MayhewNo. The position is the same as in the answer I gave the hon. Member for Newham, North-West on 14 April. The police have a great deal of sympathy with the difficulties faced by handicapped road users, however, and do what they can within the limit of their resources to deal with cases which prevent access.
