§ Mr. Allaunasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what evidence he has for the claim, accepted by the Minister for Housing and Construction, Official Report, c. 396, 10 June 1981, that up to 100,000 landlords 316W would let additional accommodation but for the Opposition's policies; and how he relates this evidence to the vacant property survey estimates of the number of dwellings held empty because of the Rent Acts.
§ Mr. StanleyWhat I accepted in my answer was the proposition of my hon. Friend that it was inconsistent for the Opposition to call for new measures to meet housing needs when they were at the same time opposing new measures to meet housing needs, such as shorthold, that the Government had introduced.
