HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 c304W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps he intends to take concerning the import deposit scheme operated by the Italian Government on exports of United Kingdom footwear; and when he expects the matter to be resolved.

Mr. Parkinson

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Southend, East (Mr. Taylor) on 9 June.—[Vol. 6, c.62–3]. The scheme is due to end on 30 September 1981.

Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what quotas and tariffs are imposed on British exports of footwear to Italy and on Italian exports of footwear to the United Kingdom; and what are the current levels of trade in footwear between the two countries.

Mr. Parkinson

There are no tariffs or quotas on trade in footwear between the United Kingdom and Italy. In 1980 our exports of footwear to Italy were valued at £5.4 million (f.o.b) while imports from Italy were £139.2 million (c.i.f.).
