§ Mr. Dormandasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what proposals he has to increase the opportunities for, and the standard of, cycling proficiency education;
(2) if he will encourage the education of young people about the value of cycling and promote links between schools and local cycle clubs.
§ Dr. BoysonMany teachers are already involved in teaching young people to ride bicycles safely and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, whose national cycling proficiency scheme trains some 300,000 children between the ages of 9 and 14 annually, receives considerable co-operation from schools. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport is responsible for promoting road safety, and the consultative paper which his Department issued recently invited comments on education and training issues.
