HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 c300W
22. Mr. Eggar

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will seek to increase competition between airports owned by the British Airports Authority and those owned by local authorities.

Mr. Eyre

The Government have taken a number of measures to encourage the development of air services from the regional airports, whether owned by the BAA in Scotland or by local authorities in England and Wales, in order to shift the burden away from the London area airports. However, the decision to offer additional air services from any particular airport is, in the first instance, a matter for the airlines concerned to determine in the light of their commercial judgment.
