HC Deb 24 June 1981 vol 7 c109W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what proportion of the high level nuclear waste which the authorities propose to bury underground in depositories originates from the military, as opposed to civil, nuclear programme.

Mr. King

I have been asked to reply.

There are no proposals to bury high-level radioactive waste underground. That is simply one option which might be adopted for the vitrified waste, after an initial period of storage. The amount of high level waste produced by the military programmes is a small proportion of the total produced by civil programmes.
