Arms and Ammunition (Seizures)

Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about recent seizures of arms and ammunition by the security forces.

Mr. Alison

During the period 1 March to 15 June 1981, the following weapons were recovered by the security forces:

	Weapons recovered
Sub-machine guns	17
Rifles	49
Pistols/revolvers	45
Shotguns	6
Rocket launchers	1
	2 lots of 10
Mortars	tubes

In addition, the security forces also recovered 9,452 rounds of ammunitions and 374 lbs of explosives.

A number of persons have been charged with offences arising out of these finds.
