HL Deb 19 June 1981 vol 421 c845WA
Lord Vernon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In the light of the detailed ODA policies and practice as regards Women in Development set out in RD(S)201/217/01, what initiatives specifically designed to help women in developing countries have been followed up by ODA since 1979; how many of these initiatives relate to family planning, and how many to other projects; to which countries do they relate; and what is the estimated expenditure on each project.

The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (Lord Carrington)

Since 1979 ODA has sought to apply its policies on Women in Development both by taking more account of implications for women in all its activities, and by supporting projects specifically designed to help women, notably in mother and child health, family planning, education and agriculture, through the bilateral aid programme, through joint funding with voluntary agencies, and through contributions to international agencies active in this field. I am sending the noble Lord details.
