Mr. Geoffrey Johnson Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest estimate of the number of people under 25 years of age unemployed in the employment areas which include the parliamentary boundary of East Grinstead compared with May 1979 and May 1980.

The numbers unemployed are analysed by age in January, April, July and October. At April 1981 there were 1,032 people under 25 years of age registered as unemployed in the area covered by the East Grinstead, Tunbridge Wells and Uckfield employment offices, which closely corresponds to the East Grinstead parliamentary constituency. The corresponding figures at April 1979 and April 1980 were 436 and 449, respectively.

At May 1981 there were 3,037 people registered as unemployed in the area covered by the East Grinstead, Tunbridge Wells and Uckfield employment offices, which closely corresponds to the East Grinstead parliamentary constituency. The numbers at May 1979 and May 1980 were 1,393 and 1,547, respectively.

asked the Sercretary of State for Employment how many of the unemployed under 25 years of age in the employment areas which include the parlimentary boundary of East Grinstead, had been unemployed for more than one year in (a) May 1981 and (b) May 1980

The numbers unemployed are analysed by age and duration in January, April, July and October. At April 1981 there were 37 people under 25 years of age who had been registered as unemployed for over 52 weeks in the area covered by the East Grinstead, Tunbridge Wells and Uckfield employment offices, which closely corresponds to the East Grinstead parliamentary constituency. The corresponding fugure at April 1980 was 14.
