asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is his policy towards the tape recording of interviews with prisoners in Northern Ireland.

Prison authorites do not, as a matter of policy, tape record discussions with prisoners. Visitors to prisons are not permitted to bring in tape recorders for the purpose of recording discussions with prisoners.
